credits: 3.0 Objectives: A) Explain the various auditory deficits and resultant communicative impairments; B) Explain the various approaches to aural rehabilitation across the life span; C) Compare and contrast the various amplification systems available; D) Explain the controversies regarding oral/aural education vs. manual education; E) Describe the psychological, emotional, educational and vocational problems associated with hearing impairments throughout the life span. Method of Instruction: Will be taught primarily through lecture and class discussion. Videos will be used to supplement lectures and assigned readings, and guest speakers may be invited. Method of Evaluation: Four tests, final exam, and a paper.
