CSD 3595 - AURAL REHABILITATION


credits: 3.0
Objectives: A) Explain the various auditory deficits and resultant communicative impairments; B) Explain the various approaches to aural rehabilitation across the life span; C) Compare and contrast the various amplification systems available; D) Explain the controversies regarding oral/aural education vs. manual education; E) Describe the psychological, emotional, educational and vocational problems associated with hearing impairments throughout the life span. Method of Instruction: Will be taught primarily through lecture and class discussion. Videos will be used to supplement lectures and assigned readings, and guest speakers may be invited. Method of Evaluation: Four tests, final exam, and a paper.

Prerequisite(s): CSD 2100 - INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATIVE DISORDERS  and CSD 2150 - ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY FOR SPEECH AND LANGUAGE  and CSD 2250 - LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT  and CSD 2320 - PRINCIPLES OF PHONETICS  (or)  CSD 2350 - SPEECH AND HEARING SCIENCE  and CSD 2700 - INTRODUCTION TO AUDIOLOGY  and CSD 2100 - INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATIVE DISORDERS  and CSD 2150 - ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY FOR SPEECH AND LANGUAGE  and  CSD 2250 - LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT  and CSD 2320 - PRINCIPLES OF PHONETICS .
