MKT 4510 - BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION CAREERINTERNSHIP credits: 3.0 This experiential learning internship will combine pedagogical activities with real-world work experiences at partner organizations, so that students can learn and apply business skills within the context of an actual workplace. These work experiences will be blended with academic work including a written report, a daily internship journal and an oral presentation. Students will have the opportunity to meet assigned responsibilities, show initiative in meeting their objectives, and develop interpersonal and team skills in an organizational environment. This program will help prepare students for the business issues faced by real organizations, while building professional and personal connections within the business community. Objectives: A) Obtain real-world work experience with a partner organization; B) Apply your skills in a real-world business environment; C) Demonstrate written and oral communications skill; D) Develop working relationships and networking skills within an organization. Method of Instruction: Experiential learning: An applied workplace setting for which the student will receive a grade and an academic credit on their transcript. The Business Administration internship-faculty sponsor will: Partner with the Elmira College Office of Career Services and the internship organization; Connect with the onsite supervisor and student-intern as the faculty representative; Assign and evaluate the written assignments, e.g. journal, reflection report, and presentation; Communicate with the student-intern (via email, telephone, or in person) to discuss the internship weekly journal reflections and experiences. Method of Evaluation: Graded based on a S-D-F. Students who are registered for S-D-F and earn a grade below C- will have that grade (D+, D, D-, or F) calculated into their GPA. Grades of S are not calculated into their cumulative GPA. Meets FEX-Career Related Internship Requirements.
Prerequisite(s): Junior or Senior Standing, Instructor’s Signature Required. Also need to complete a contract with the Office of Career Services, before registering for course and ACC 2010 - FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING and ACC 2021 - MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING and ECO 2010 - PRINCIPLES OF MICROECONOMICS and ECO 2020 - PRINCIPLES OF MACROECONOMICS and MGT 2240 - PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT and MKT 2250 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING
