CHE 3240 - ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY credits: 4.0 Crosslisted/Same As: ENV 3240 Will examine the basic mechanisms by which chemicals adversely affect the body, look in-depth at the processes of risk assessment and risk analysis by which guidelines on exposure to toxic chemicals are determined, and discuss the mechanisms by which contaminants are transported in the environment. Objectives: A) Apply toxicological principles to material reported in the lay press and make informed decisions; B) Identify the principles of risk analysis and risk assessment used by government agencies; C) Develop hypotheses and design experiments to test the toxicity of individual chemicals; D) Define the issues surrounding food, diet, and evaluate their relationship to human health. Method of Instruction: A mixture of lectures, small/large group discussions, case studies, and in-class activities will be used. Method of Evaluation: Exams, Final, Homework, Individual Projects, and Quizzes. Meets *WRT Distribution Requirement. Lab Fee: $125.00.
