ENV 3240 - ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY credits: 4.0 Crosslisted/Same As: CHE 3240 Environmental toxicology is the study of the role toxic substances play in the modern world. This course will introduce students to common pollutants, their impacts, and how the interact with and move through ecosystems. It will also discuss the analysis of environmental toxins, risk assessment, as well as impacts on human health. Objectives: A) Identify key issues related to common environmental toxins, and how they relate to human health as well as the health of larger ecosystems; B) Apply toxicological principles to discussions of current events, in both the professional peer-reviewed and lay literature; C) Identify the principles of risk analysis and risk assessment used by government agencies; D) Apply the scientific method to build an understanding of toxicity issues related to individual substances. Method of Instruction: A mixture of lectures, small/large group discussions, case studies, laboratory, and in-class activities will be used. Method of Evaluation: Exams, Final, Homework, Individual Project, Quizzes, and Laboratory. Meets *WRT Distribution Requirement. Lab Fee: $125.00.
