ITM 3100 - DATA ANALYTICS FOR BUSINESS credits: 3.0 This course advances statistical concepts and tools leveraged for business data analytics. The emphasis is on knowing what analytical techniques to use to address specific business questions, on the use of computer software to perform business statistical analysis, and on the interpretation and communication of the results of such analysis. This course focuses on linear and logistic regression along with time series and forecasting. It ends with a discussion of big data and managing large data sets. Objectives: A) Analyze, organize, and present various types of data to gain useful insights; B) Select appropriate statistical tools and methods for solving a particular problem; C) Apply advanced statistical concepts to conduct regression analysis; D) Compute time series and forecasting to address business challenges; E) Understand the unique challenges in managing and analyzing big data. Method of Instruction: Lecture, Readings from textbook and supplemental materials as assigned, Homework assignments as outlined in the syllabus, and In-class discussion and activities. Method of Evaluation: Homework assignments (35%) of final grade; In-class assignments and discussion (10%) of final grade; Big data paper (10%) of final grade. This paper will discuss the complexity of managing and analyzing big data. Exams will be (45%) of the final grade. There will be a total of three exams given throughout the semester. Each exam will account for 15% of the final grade. These will not be cumulative but rather progress exams after specific material has been covered.
