BIO 2300 - BIOSTATISTICS credits: 4.0 This course does not require a lab fee. Designed to introduce the application of statistics to biological problems: biostatistics. Will briefly cover hypothesis creation, data collection, distributions, probability, and statistical inference. However, the majority of the course content will be the use of statistical tests to address biological questions. Objectives: A) Create testable hypothesis and collect data; B) Use statistical analysis to test hypothesis; C) Use appropriate statistical tests depending on the type of data used and hypothesis tested; D) Create clear and concise statistical analysis using the computer program R; E) Present coherent analysis of the outcome of statistical analysis. Method of Instruction: Lecture, lab, and presentations of analysis. Method of Evaluation: Lecture exams 50%, lab practical 35%, project, and presentation 15%.
Prerequisite(s): Math Competency requirements and related courses.
