FSH 3350 - FUTURE OF FASHION MARKETING: SUSTAINABILITY

FSH 3350-MKT 3350 . Sustainability is defined as the ability to co-exist with our environment and resources, in a way that preserves them for future generations. In the fashion industry, which is on the front lines of a consumer-driven society, sustainability represents a necessary contribution to society as well as a potentially important component of a company’s overall brand image. Will explore sustainability concepts including sources of waste in the fashion product life cycle, worker safety, use of sustainable materials, the role of fast fashion and more, as well as consumer perceptions of sustainability and their impact on marketing. Using case studies, projects and experiential learning, it will provide a hands-on introduction to a topic of growing importance for the fashion industry. Objectives: A) To explain the concept of sustainability, and how it applies to the fashion industry; B) Summarize the core sustainability issues in fashion, including waste, obsolescence, working conditions, the role of fast fashion and more; C) Discuss consumer perceptions of sustainability and how they affect a company’s brand image; D) Describe how to apply sustainability principles to fashion marketing and operations efforts; E) To use and apply meaningful metrics for the success of sustainability efforts; F) Create and develop marketing plans for sustainability for fashion organizations. Method of Instruction: Lectures and class discussion, guest speakers, assigned readings and cases, field trips, and in-the-field hands on experiences / project based learning. Method of Evaluation: Assignments: Case studies, 30%; Exams / Quizzes, 20%; Group Facilitator, 20%; and Experiential Learning Project / Portfolio, 30%.

Prerequisite(s): ECO 2010 - PRINCIPLES OF MICROECONOMICS  and MKT 2250 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING  and FSH 3200 - FASHION MARKETING: DOMESTIC, GLOBAL, AND OMNI  (or) MKT 2250 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING  and MKT 3200 - FASHION MARKETING: DOMESTIC, GLOBAL, AND OMNI  and ECO 2010 - PRINCIPLES OF MICROECONOMICS
