MAT 2100 - DISCRETE MATHEMATICS


credits: 4.0
Discrete mathematics includes a number of topics which do not belong in the traditional calculus sequence. These are important to future educators wishing to deepen their understanding of mathematics, as well as to those preparing for an in-depth study of mathematics. This course is an introductory survey. Topics include logic, elementary number theory, an introduction to proof techniques, set theory and combinatorics (counting arguments). Additional topics will be discussed if time permits. Includes a lab component to study the theory and practice of these topics. Method of Evaluation: Homework projects, quizzes, and examinations.

Prerequisite(s): ADEQUATE SCORE ON THE DEPARTMENTAL PLACEMENT TEST and either MAT 1030 - COLLEGE ALGEBRA  (or) MAT 1091 - PRE-CALCULUS I  (or) MAT 1092 - PRE-CALCULUS II  (or) MAT 1930 - IMMERSION COLLEGE ALGEBRA  (or) MAT 2010 - CALCULUS I  (or) MAT 2020 - CALCULUS II
