MAT 1930 - IMMERSION COLLEGE ALGEBRA credits: 5.0 In addition to satisfying the College’s mathematics competency requirement, this course will provide students with a solid basis in the art of formulating and solving quantitative problems. The course also provides the necessary background for other quantitative courses including MAT 1090 - PRECALCULUS and MAT 2090 - STATISTICAL METHODS . Specific topics will include a review of the fundamental operations of the real number system, exponents, polynomial operations, solutions of linear and quadratic equations, and solution of systems of linear equations and inequalities. Realistic problems will be examined after each topic is introduced. This course could replace MAT 1030 for grades of C- or below. Method of Instruction: Lectures, discussions, and problem solving. Method of Evaluation: Grades will be based on class examinations, take-home assignments and a comprehensive final. Meets *MQR Distribution Requirements. Meets MAT 1030 General Degree Requirement as well.
