MER 4520 - FASHION MERCHANDISING INTERNSHIP

FSH 4520 -MER 4520. This course is a credit variable course for 3.0 OR 6.0 credits. This is a practical internship-involving placement with a real-world fashion organization, for students majoring in fashion merchandising as well as other students interested in a career in the fashion industry. This internship may involve areas including fashion marketing, advertising, buying or retail store planning. Skills students can develop as part of these real-world assignments may include fashion trend analysis, fashion buying and merchandising, forecasting, price management and product development. Specific assignments will vary, and be assigned in collaboration with a faculty member. Objectives: A) Students will successfully apply principles of management and principles of marketing in the field of Fashion Merchandising; B) At least one additional learning outcome, specific to the internship, will be developed by the student and faculty member, defined and agreed to prior to beginning the internship; the faculty member will assess the student on the learning outcome at the conclusion of the internship. Method of Instruction: This is an internship; learning will be experiential, and specific to the internship opportunity. Method of Evaluation: Graded on “Pass-Fail” basis. Upon completion of the internship, the student’s on site supervisor will assess the student’s performance using the following criteria: A) Ethical behavior; completion of assigned tasks; professional conduct and appearance; initiative; willingness to contribute; communication; ability to work with others; B) The supervisor will also verify that the minimum number of hours has been satisfied; C) The faculty member will assess the final product that was mutually agreed upon. No student can pass the internship without completing the minimum number of hours for a 3.0-credits or 6.0-credits internship

Prerequisite(s): Need to complete a contract with the Office of Career Services, before registering for course and MGT 2240 - PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT  and MKT 2250 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING
