MAT 3045 - INTRODUCTION TO PROBABILITY


credits: 3.0
Will introduce students to classical and modern probability theory. After developing the basic tools from set theory, measure theory, and axiomatic probability theory, the student will apply them in the study of random variables and their functions, conditional probability and its applications, and moment-generating functions. Objectives: To understand and apply the Central Limit Theorem, that mathematical tool that makes most of modern statistics possible. Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, computer lab exercises and assigned homework. Method of Evaluation: Homework and computer lab (60%), midterm exam (20%), and final exam (20%).

Prerequisite(s): MAT 2100 - DISCRETE MATHEMATICS  and MAT 3030 - MULTIVARIABLE CALCULUS
