HLS 3030 - NUTRITION ACROSS THE LIFESPAN

THE COURSE IS NOT INTENDED FOR BIOLOGY MAJORS. Requirement in the Pre-Athletic Training Minor and examines how the human body works, and how humans interact with their environment. Major organ systems of the human body will be examined. Fundamental biological principles as they apply to humans are explored, especially in reference to health outcomes. Objectives: A) Human Biology attempts to provide students with a deeper appreciation of themselves as unique organisms while recognizing the characteristics they share with other humans and living things; B) The course encourages students to practice the scientific method and to think critically and creatively about the biological concerns of humans as individuals, as products of the evolutionary process, and as members of the biosphere; C) Human Biology provides students with knowledge about how their bodies work that can lead to informed decision making; D) The course seeks to enable students to develop skills in acquiring reliable scientific information and thus promote lifelong learning. Method of Instruction: Discussion, lecture, and projects. Method of Evaluation: Attendance and sincere effort are expected of all students, weekly quizzes 25%, three exams 30%, projects and reports 20%, final exam 25%. Meets *PEW Distribution Requirement.

Prerequisite(s): BIO 1210 - ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY I  and BIO 1211 - ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY II  .
