HCM 3400 - HEALTHCARE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

A study of the principles of healthcare finance. The student will explore topics such as financial and management accounting, financial reporting structure in healthcare organizations, healthcare financial statements analysis, costing and budgetary methods, sources of healthcare revenue and expenses, processes for healthcare billing and capital investment decisions. Objectives: A) Develop, track, and explain healthcare budgets; B) Assess and apply a variety of payment and reimbursement models; C) Analyze healthcare data using statistical techniques; D) Apply financial management and reporting skills for making operational and strategic decisions appropriate for unique healthcare settings. Method of Instruction: Lecture, classroom discussion, and guest speakers. Method of Evaluation: Assignments, 20 %; Exams, 30%; Case studies, 20%; and Course project/presentation, 30 %.
