HCM 3010 - FOUNDATIONS OF HEALTHCAREMANAGEMENT

HCM 3010-MGT 3010 . Will introduce and examine the main features of the financing and delivery of health care in the United States. It covers providers of care, health care products and services, the relationship between health and health care, private and public insurance and related financing mechanisms, health care reform, factors affecting health policy, and the impact of health policy on key stakeholders. The course pays close attention to the economic incentives facing institutions and individuals and to the economic context of important health policy issues. Objectives: A) Describe the interactions of healthcare economics, spending, and insurance; B) Explain the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid and their implications for the healthcare field; C) Identify the relationships among providers, insurance companies, and consumers of healthcare; D) Analyze applications of healthcare quality and innovation, and the evolving role of technology in healthcare; E) Develop a formal written report. Method of Instruction: Lecture and discussion, Reading assignments, and Group project. Method of Evaluation: Quizzes 30%, Presentation 15%, Written project 25%; and Final Exam 30%. Meets *WRT Distribution Requirement.

Prerequisite(s): MGT 2240 - PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT  and MKT 2250 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING
