FIN 3945 - BUSINESS INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY:VC FOR ENTREPRENEURS credits: 6.0 Crosslisted/Same As: MGT 3945 Crosslisted/Same As (2): MKT 3945 FIN 3945-MGT 3945 -MKT 3945 . Venture Capital-Financing Emerging Enterprises is a one semester course in developing and financing entrepreneurial firms. Upon completion of the course, students will have been exposed to every element needed to own and operate such a firm. There will be particular emphasis on financial resources in the second part of the course; obtaining these resources, measuring, protecting equity in the organization. The final course project will culminate in a Shark Tank style competition in front of successful local entrepreneurs. Valuation will be judged on creativity and long-term viability. Objectives: A) Describe the overall opportunities in global entrepreneurship; B) Analyze the qualities and skills needed to be the leader of a new entity, connecting of integrity and success; C) Evaluate the connections between resources, growth and success; D) List the spectrum of available resources from family, friends, bootstrapping, crowdfunding and venture capitalist; E) Explain the relationships between venture valuation, venture capital and negotiations; F) Apply these concepts in your business design and capital valuation. Method of Instruction: A hands on instructive course in how to start, finance and operate an entrepreneurial firm in the 21st century. Shark Tank style competition in developing, competing and financing venture funded organizations. Method of Evaluation: Reaction Papers 30%, Group Leading Discussion 30%, Final Presentation -Business Plan 40%.
Prerequisite(s): ACC 2021 - MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING and MGT 2240 - PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT and MKT 2250 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING
