EDU 2400 - INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH credits: 3.0 Crosslisted/Same As: NSG 2400 EDU 2400-NSG 2400 . Will provide a variety of majors with the ability to evaluate published research within their discipline. It also allows students the opportunity to work with students from multiple majors promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. It covers the information necessary for critically examining research and integrating various sources of evidence from research results. Additionally students will understand the nature of quantitative and qualitative research and gain experience with data collection of both methods through required mock research exercises. Objectives: A) Identify parts of the research report including: hypothesis or research question, research design, sampling procedures, subject selection, measurement principles, statistics, and ethical considerations; B) Articulate how practice in the professional field is influenced by research; C) Analyze research studies identifying the purpose, methods, findings and significance of the research; D) Examine various theoretical traditions that inform the research process; E) Define ethical conduct of studies; F) Develop a discipline specific hypothesis or research question; G) Collect, code, and analyze qualitative data; H) Collect and analyze quantitative data. Method of Instruction: Class lecture, discussion, and various group activities. Method of Evaluation: Article Reviews (four) 30%, Midterm 20%, Coded Field Notes and analysis 10%, Survey Data and Analysis 10%, and Literature Review Paper 30%.
Prerequisite(s): MAT 1030 - COLLEGE ALGEBRA (or) MAT 1060 - MODELING THE REAL WORLDWITH MATHEMATICS (or) MAT 1091 - PRE-CALCULUS I (or) MAT 1092 - PRE-CALCULUS II (or) MAT 2010 - CALCULUS I (or) MAT 2020 - CALCULUS II (or) MAT 1930 - IMMERSION COLLEGE ALGEBRA
