CHE 3062 - BIOCHEMISTRY II

BIO 3062 -CHE 3062 covers the chemical processes involved in the metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. It builds on material covered in Biochemistry I. The focus is on energy conversion from dietary consumption to excretion. It is designed for chemistry, biochemistry, or biology majors. Objectives: A) Explain the steps and regulation of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis; B) Describe the central role of ATP in the control of anabolic and catabolic pathways and its crucial role in transport; C) Explain electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation; D) Evaluate details of metabolism, including but not limited to: the citric acid cycle, fatty acid catabolism, and amino acid biosynthesis. Method of Instruction: Lecture with active problem solving. Method of Evaluation: Grading for this course will be based on quizzes (20%), participation (10%) and exams (70%).

Prerequisite(s): BIO 3042 - BIOCHEMISTRY I  (or) CHE 3042 - BIOCHEMISTRY I 
Co-Requisite(s): MUST BE TAKEN WITH BIO 3062L -CHE 3062L  LAB.
