BIO 3050L - MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY credits: 1.0 Is the laboratory component of the Microbiology course designed for the science major. The purpose of this project-based course is to give students hands-on training on the techniques and concepts encountered in the microbiology laboratory. Students will advance their learning and further develop their laboratory skills in the context of the microbiological sciences. Topics covered include: Microbe transfer and culture techniques, differential and selective media, identification and classification of microbial known and unknown samples, protein electrophoresis and analysis, and macrophage killing in immune responses. Objectives: A) Utilize and experimentally manipulate techniques used to isolate and study microbes, and the techniques and materials used in the control of microbes; B) Develop and practice safely performing laboratory experiments resulting in the generation of scientific data; C) Demonstrate the professional use of the technical language and written skills encountered in the microbiological sciences. Method of Instruction: Laboratory demonstration, lecture, and hands-on experimentation. Lab Fee: $75.00.
Prerequisite(s): BIO 1022 - GENERAL BIOLOGY II Co-Requisite(s): MUST BE TAKEN WITH A BIO 3050 LECTURE.
