BIO 1022L - GENERAL BIOLOGY LABORATORY II credits: 1.0 This is the laboratory component of the second of a two-term introductory biology course for the science major. The purpose of this course is to give students hands-on training in the methods and concepts encountered in the basic biological sciences. Students will learn to use compound and dissecting microscopes, dissect and observe specimens, identify important characteristics of animals and tissues, present scientific work, and begin to work with experimental design and biostatistics. Objectives: A) Work with the tools common to a biology laboratory; B) Present scientific research; C) Demonstrate the professional use of the technical language and written skills through their lab notebook; D) Use and interpret basic biostatistics; E) Describe the diversity of animal life. Method of Instruction: Laboratory demonstration, lecture, and hands-on experimentation. Method of Evaluation: Based lab notebooks (50%) and pre- and post-lab quizzes (50%). Lab Fee: $125.00.
Co-Requisite(s): Must be taken with BIO 1022 - GENERAL BIOLOGY II Lecture.
