BIO 4605 - EVOLUTION


credits: 3.0
Students will study recent research in molecular evolution, along with the classical evidence in morphology, anatomy, physiology, and the fossil record. Discussions will involve learning how to interpret evidence present in scientific reports. Students will be required to write two critiques of research papers from the scientific literature. Objectives: To synthesize the information from biology and chemistry in understanding the principles and mechanism of the evolutionary process. Method of Instruction: Lectures and discussions, student presentations and discussions of assigned readings, studies in current literature and classical papers in evolution. Method of Evaluation: Exams (60% each), quizzes and discussions (40%).

Prerequisite(s): Junior or Senior Standing and BIO 1022 - GENERAL BIOLOGY II .
