EDU 3358 - METHODOLOGIES OF TEACHING: VISUALARTS credits: 3.0 Objectives: A) Design, implement, and assess units and lessons in the visual arts specific to grades K-12 teaching and the National, Common Core, and New York State Learning Standards; B) Introduce students to the various art media and techniques and consider their application to the classroom situation; C) Extend the visual awareness of prospective teachers through direct art experience; D) Study the relationship of aesthetic experience and other visual experiences in the classroom (e.g. maps, diagrams, charts). The course will consist of studio projects designed around the following media: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, computer art and the use of found materials. Method of Instruction: Technical demonstrations, class participation in studio projects, slides, videos, group discussion, and feedback. Method of Evaluation: Students will prepare lesson plans outlining their choice of different art techniques. One lesson will be demonstrated to the class and one presented to a group other than the class. Each lesson will be documented with examples of student work and self-evaluation by the student. The student will keep a journal of ideas throughout the term. Lessons, class participation, and journal.
