CYS 3010 - NETWORK AND SYSTEM SECURITY credits: 3.0 Modern organizations know that even the strongest systems can be vulnerable to cyber- attacks. As a result, jobs in cybersecurity are rapidly expanding as companies look to secure their digital assets. This course will teach you how to secure those assets by identifying and fixing potential security vulnerabilities. By the end of the course, you will be able to identify and remedy common network and systems vulnerabilities. This online class has optional live sessions. Networks: Students will learn about the different types of network attacks and how to deploy countermeasures against them. Endpoint Devices: Students will study how to examine cyber-attacks on endpoint devices and formulate protection strategies to defend against these attacks. Encryption Protocols: Students will study how to design secure networks by implementing cryptographic protocols. Security, Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR): Students will learn how to utilize the SOAR framework to help security teams manage and respond to security warnings and alarms. Objectives: A) Distinguish between the different types of cyber-attacks on networks and endpoint devices; B) Analyze threat intelligence sources; C) Explain different threat actors, attack vectors, and intelligence sources for networks and endpoint devices; D) Skill outcomes; E) Protect networks and endpoint devices from cyber-attacks by automating the application of Department of Defense (DOD) and industry standard security countermeasures; F) Help security teams manage and respond to security warnings and alarms. Create a sandbox to simulate and analyze cyber-attacks; G) Simulate common network attacks; H) Implement network security countermeasures to protect against attacks. Implement endpoint device countermeasures to protect against attacks. Method of Evaluation: Onboarding Assignments 50 5%; Weekly Assignments 120 (12 x 10) 12%; Participation 150 (10 x 15) 15%; Quizzes 120 (6 x 20) 12%; Labs 250 (5 x 50) 25%; Final Project (Part 1: Proposal, Part 2: Draft, Part 3: Final, Presentation) 310 (50, 70, 110,80) 31%.
