FOR 4300L - FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY LAB credits: 1.0 Crosslisted/Same As: CHE 4300L CHE 4300L -FOR 4300L is the lab companion to Forensic Toxicology that will provide students hands-on experience in the handling of samples and analysis of drugs and toxins in a forensics environment. This course serves as the laboratory companion course to Forensic Toxicology. The course will provide hands on experience in the preparation of samples and analytical techniques and instrumentation used in the analysis of drugs and toxins in forensics cases. This lab will additionally guide and educate students in the proper handling and reporting of analytical data within the special context of forensics and evidence. Objectives: A) Compare and prepare forensics samples for analysis; B) Explain the importance of separation techniques in the analysis of drugs and toxins; C) Use varied spectroscopic techniques to identify and quantify drugs and toxins in samples; D) Use varied chromatographic techniques to identify and quantify drugs and toxins in samples; E) Use mass spectrometry to identify drugs and toxins in prepared samples; F) Gain experience in the handling and reporting of toxicological results. Method of Instruction: A combination of pre-lab lecture, laboratory work, and group interpretation/analysis of data. Method of Evaluation: Lab Notebook 20%, Completion of Lab Activities 50%, and Assigned Lab Reports 30%. Lab Fee: $75.00.
