CRJ 1905 - FORENSIC SCIENCE credits: 6.0 Crosslisted/Same As: CHE 1905 CHE 1905 -CRJ 1905 Meets *PLS Distribution Requirement. Students will learn how to think scientifically and use scientific method in experiments and labs. They will apply this scientific approach to the study of evidence in matters of law. the class emphasizes measurement, deductive reasoning, scientific analysis, instrumentation and the design of biological and chemical assays as they pertain to evidence. Objectives: A) To apply deductive reasoning, mathematical treatment, and experimental approach to forensic science; B) To understand the nature of evidence in criminal trials, the role of experts and scientists in providing proof or introducing reasonable doubt at trial, procedures for the collection of evidence at crime scenes, and the need for a strong code of ethics in the study of evidence. Method of Instruction: Cooperative learning in lab, lecture, discussion. Two selections from the who-dunit literature will be required reading. Method of Evaluation: Two major exams (30%), final exam (20%), lab reports, (15%), quizzes (20%), and participation (15%). Meets *PLS Distribution Requirement.
