CSD 4591 - SEMINAR SPEECH PATHOLOGY: INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES credits: 3.0 Objectives: A) A basic understanding of the theories of intelligence and historical trends in the field of mental retardation; B) An understanding of the etiological and syndrome classification; C) An understanding of the theoretical approaches to mental retardation; D) An awareness of the speech, language, and medical problems associated with mental retardation; E) A knowledge of diagnostic techniques and therapeutic procedures involved with this problem. Method of Instruction: Will be taught primarily through lectures, films, audio and visual materials will be used to enhance the student’s understanding of mental retardation. Method of Evaluation: A) Short referenced papers; B) Mid-term examination; C) Final examination; D) Participation and contribution to class discussions.
