ANT 4595 - SEMINAR IN ANTHROPOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY credits: 3.0 Crosslisted/Same As: SOC 4595 ANT 4595-SOC 4595 . A capstone experience for junior or senior-level Anthropology and Sociology students. This course is a requirement for Majors in Sociology/Anthropology. It provides a capstone experience for junior or senior-level Anthropology and Sociology students. Students will gain experience integrating their own research into the literature of their discipline and area of interest; will present relevant materials from the professional literature to the course; will submit a draft of their research project to the course for discussion and present their final draft in a professional and/or public setting. It will provide WRT credit for SOC/ANT majors and for minors in both disciplines. Objectives: A) Demonstrate the integration and application of their previous coursework; B) Discuss and analyze the professional literature from their respective discipline and subfield; C) Identify and explain the applications of different qualitative methodologies; D) Design, conduct, and analyze a qualitative study; E) Effectively summarize their study using appropriate discourse from their discipline and subfield; F) Identify and discuss contemporary areas of debate within and between the fields of anthropology and sociology; G) Demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for pursuing further development in graduate school or professional training. Method of Instruction: This course will be run as a seminar. Method of Evaluation: The class will complete individual original research papers, and will do presentations on readings. Students will also be graded on participation in discussions and peer reviews. Meets *WRT Distribution Requirement.
Prerequisite(s): Senior or Junior level Anthropology and Sociology students.
