WMS 2902 - PSYCHOLOGY OF WOMEN credits: 0.0 Psychology of Women is a contemporary life-span approach to the female experience, focusing on topics such as sexual dimorphism, emergence of gender differences, language acquisition and use, female childhood experiences and socialization, role identification and moral development, pshychological aspects of sexuality, pregnancy and birth, motherhood and career options, maturing and aging, and particular psychological disorders related to the female role in modern society. A general text accompanied by readings from recent research will be central to the course, and students will also be asked to look at areas in the arts where female psychological experiences have been expressed in especially compelling ways. Method of Instruction: Combination of lectures, discussions, films and student research. Method of Evaluation: There will be a mid-term (25%), a final (30%), and a research project (30%). Class participation will also be evaluated (15%).
