SSC 4925 - PART, CIVIC LDRSHIP & SOCIAL CHANGE credits: 0.0 There is a great deal of concern about our civic life. Some people believe we have become uncivil in our civic life. Others have suggested that people (especially young people) do not have any concern for others, or for improving our communities. This project is designed to explore these concerns, and to demonstrate the power and value of participating as leaders of community oriented social change efforts. Objectives: The methodology to be used is “participatory action research”, which is built on the thesis that social knowledge can best be generated by active participation. The focus will be on civic education through service. Method of Instruction: Class sessions proceeded by discussion of readings, and reflection on how we exercise leadership in social change. Method of Evaluation: Fulfill responsibilities, initiative/leadership, and participation fellowship.
