SSC 3590 - JUNIOR SEMINAR IN SOCIAL&BEHAVIORALSCIENCES

This optional course is for Juniors who are majoring or minoring in Social and Behavior science disciplines and considering a career in the field. We will focus on doing original research on the field, and assessing career opportunities. We will also focus on graduate school options and preparation. All students will write a resume or CV and create an on-line research portfolio. Objectives: A) Demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for starting professional career in a social or behavioral science field; B) Describe the procedures involved in taking pre-graduate exams and applying for admission to graduate or professional programs; C) Write a resume or CV, and a professional cover letter or graduate school application letter; D) Create an on-line portfolio of personal research. Method of Instruction: Class will be a seminar format focusing on the practical work of disciplinary career preparation. We will use discussion, group critique, and presentations. Method of Evaluation: Participation will be assessed based on contribution to class discussions, as well as preparation for class as demonstrated by timely completion of all assignments.

Prerequisite(s): JUNIOR OR SENIOR and major or minor in a social or behavioral science field, non-major or minor students will be signed-in at the professor’s discretion.
