PSY 2670 - FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY

CRJ 2670 -PSY 2670, this course introduces students to forensic psychology - the scientific study of the legal system and psychology. The topics covered in forensic psychology vary widely. Along with exploring the history, uses of forensic psychology and contemporary problems, we will also discuss some of the major areas researched in psychology. Some of these major areas include but are not limited to the police psychology, correctional psychology, court system, criminal psychology, investigative psychology, and victimology. Psychology majors interested in applied careers, as well as criminal justice majors interested in psychology, will likely benefit from the material in this course. Objectives: A) Define basic concepts in law and psychology that are central to forensic psychology; B) Describe the results of research done in several areas of forensic psychology; C) Analyze original source articles from forensic psychology journals; D) Apply research findings in forensic psychology to media reports about crime and the justice system. Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, and student presentations. Method of Evaluation: Exams (50% of the grade); Homework (25% of the grade); Presentation (10% of the grade); Course Log/Journal (15% of the grade).
