PSC 3550 - THE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY


credits: 3.0
Will study a wide range of topics regarding this central American political institution. Among the topics to be covered: the Constitutional role of the president; the development of presidential power; presidential strategy; presidential relations with the public, Congress, and the courts; the dynamics of presidential elections, and factors that lead to the success or failure of presidential candidates and presidents. Objectives: Will provide students with the opportunity to gain a detailed understanding of the dynamics of one of our central political institutions - how it really works and its impact upon us. Method of Instruction: Primarily lectures and ample class discussion. Method of Evaluation: Exams and writing assignments. Meets *WRT and *WEP Distribution Requirements.
