PSC 3540 - CONGRESS: LEGISLATIVE STRATEGY AND BEHAVIOR credits: 3.0 Will thoroughly examine the institution of Congress and the legislative process in the United States. Among the topics that may be covered are: the historical development of Congress, Congress’ relations with the other branches of government, Congressional elections, legislative strategy, current controversies in Congress, and the structure of state and local legislative bodies in the United States. In addition, will discuss the political environment in which Congress works, including how public opinion, the media, interest groups, lobbyists, and social protest movements affect and are affected by the work of Congress. Method of Instruction: Primarily lecture and class discussion. Method of Evaluation: Midterm and final exams, term paper, and class participation. Meets *WRT and *WEP Distribution Requirements.
