PSC 2915 - MODL UNITD NATIONS SECURITY COUNCL credits: 6.0 This course introduces the inner workings of the United Nations Security Council. Through simulated exercises and discussions of the functions of the U.N. and the contemporary global security issues, you will learn the dynamics of world politics at the inter-governmental level. Students will go through two main activities: 1) A study of the United Nations, in general, and the Security Council, in particular and 2) Simulated exercises of the U.N. Security Council on various contemporary global security issues. Objectives: A) List the contemporary issues before the United Nations; B) Describe current issues before the Security Council; C) Discuss current peacekeeping missions of the United Nations; D) Analyze some of the most pressing challenges currently facing the United Nations; E) Analyze and describe possible solutions to the problems and issues of the Security Council; F) Present coherent arguments concerning the possible solutions to the problems. Method of Instruction: Lectures on the structure and functions of the organs of the United Nations and discussions and debates on various contemporary global security issues.
