PHR 3050 - PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION credits: 0.0 Does God exist? Is there an afterlife? Why do bad things happen? Can Religion and Science coexist? Philosophers have attempted to answer these questions through the ages. Reading original sources, from ancient to modern times, we will explore and evaluate some of those answers. Objectives: Some of the most inventive, challenging, and troubling philosophy has been done by individuals (Farmers, priests, heretics, philosophers, and psychologists) who have worried about the divine, its birth, its power to create, save, and destroy, and its death. Method of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, including seminar sessions. Method of Evaluation: Short position papers on each of the central problems and a major paper.
