PHR 1300 - INTRODUCTION TO WORLD RELIGIONS


credits: 3.0
This course will be offered on online. Using a historical and comparative approach, this course introduces students to religious traditions of the world, surveying traditions’ various manifestations in different parts of the world. Will emphasize key religious history, concepts, rituals, and figures. It will address the way people organize their lives according to religious practices as well as the ways in which religious ideas influence the way people interact. Objectives: A) Describe the concept of religion and its role in human society and civilization over time; B) Summarize the historical development of the religions covered in this course; C) Recognize core religious worldviews within the religions covered in this course; D) Recall significant figures, texts, rituals, sites, and events in world religions; E) Analyze current issues in the religions covered in this course. Method of Instruction: Online lecture videos, eText readings and worksheets, online videos. Method of Evaluation: Introduction Post, 40 points total; Syllabus Quiz, 20 points total; Discussion Posts, 240 points total (4 at 60 points each); RWR (eText software) Chapter Completions, 500 points total (10 at 50 points each); Quizzes, 200 points total (4 at 50 points each).
