PED 1904 - YOGA NOW credits: 3.0 Crosslisted/Same As: PHR 1904 PED 1904-PHR 1904 . This course will include the daily practice of yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation as well as the philosophy and science of yoga. Students will experience, document, and reflect on the effects of yoga throughout the course and end up with a 15-minute sequence of poses for continued personal practice. Objectives: A) Correctly perform a series of yoga postures; B) Describe benefits of certain yoga postures; C) Explain the philosophy of yoga; D) Explain the science behind certain postures; E) Describe a method of meditation; F) Describe an experience of meditation; G) Name 25 poses in Sanskrit. Method of Instruction: Demonstrations, Class discussions of assigned readings, Practice of postures, breathing techniques and meditation, and Field trip to Thunder Mountain Retreat in Bath, NY. Method of Evaluation: 20% Participation (do the postures, breathing exercises and mediation, add to class discussions), 20% Quizzes, 20% Journal, 20% Practicum on yoga postures, and 20% Final Exam. Meets *PEW Distribution Requirements. Course Fee: $50.00.
