PED 1065 - BEGINNING SELF-DEFENSE credits: 1.0 Developed to be comprehensive behaviorally based system that anyone can learn regardless of age, gender, or experience. It is designed to be a confrontation management program. The course will emphasize the three aspects of self-defense; emotional, psychological, and physical. Objectives: A) Trace the historical background and development of Self-Defense; B) Demonstrate Self-Defense movements (evasions, escapes, and strikes; C) Outline the general and personal health benefits of Self-Defense; D) Outline the emotional, psychological and physical goals of Self-Defense; E) Demonstrate knowledge of basic anatomy and how it relates to Self-Defense movements. Method of Instruction: A) Class discussions; B) Assigned readings; C) Practical exercise; D) Partner and group practice; E) Explanations and Demonstrations of Self-Defense movements; F) Power Point of Self-Defense movements. Method of Evaluation: Attendance 15%, Participants Daily Practice Log-20%, Partner Drill Checklist-15%, Cooperation Checklist (Instructor)-10%, Practical Skills Test-20%, and Written Exam-20%. Meets *PEW Distribution Requirement.
