NSG 2200C - FOUNDATIONS II: CLINIC QUALTY-SAFTYIN PROFESSIONAL NURSING PRACTICE credits: 0.0 Grade of C, minimum of 73, or better in theory portion and a P in the clinical portion must be achieved in order to progress to the next required nursing course. Grade less than a C will require the student to repeat the course if the student remains a nursing major. A failure in the clinical component will result in an F for the course. Is a theory, laboratory-clinical course where students acquire foundational competencies and health assessment skills to deliver safe, quality nursing care.Through the use of the nursing process, the student applies basic communication skills in establishing a nurse-client relationship across the lifespan.The student will provide patient-centered care in laboratory, simulation, long-term and-or acute health care settings. Objectives: A) Implement safe, quality nursing interventions and therapeutic communication in the maintenance and restoration of client health in the health care environment; B) Utilize scientific principles from nursing and related fields when implementing the nursing process and applying health history and physical assessment findings for selected clients in the inpatient health care environment; C) Assume responsibility and accountability for professional individual nursing practice while demonstrating competent, safe, quality nursing care within the inpatient health care environment; D) Apply evidence informed practice in the care of clients and families in the acute care environment; E) Exhibit a culture of respect for the diversity of persons encountered in the health care and learning environments; F) Communicate health assessment findings to appropriate health care providers; G) Demonstrate proficiency in performing complete health assessment and foundational clinical competencies across the lifespan. Method of Instruction: Teaching-learning strategies will be drawn from but are not limited to: interactive classroom learning, discussion, demonstration, self-directed learning modules, written assignments, technological-assisted learning with course base management system, campus laboratory practice, supervised clinical practice, and-or simulation. Method of Evaluation: Clinical: Concept Maps P-F, Learning Competency P-F, Clinical P-F, ATI Medication Templates P-F, Simulation P-F, and Weekly logs-Assignments P-F. Theory: Exam One 18%; Exam Two 18%; Exam Three 18%, Quizzes 15%, Final Exam 21%; Medication Adherence Paper 5%; and Ticket to Enter (homework n=9) 5%.
