NSC 2590 - SOPHOMORE SCIENCE SEMINAR credits: 1.0 Will cover methods to find and comprehend scientific literature and pick out relevant scientific information from popular press articles. Students will also enhance critical thinking skills through case studies and logic problems. Objectives: A) Read and summarize a scientific article; B) Analyze articles published in the popular press; C) Develop conclusions to scientific problems using critical thinking; D) Solve riddles using logic. Method of Instruction: Brief lectures followed by guided small group discussion. Chemistry faculty will visit each small group to assist in discussion facilitation. Method of Evaluation: Letter grade based on work that includes homework assignments and participation. Participation will be based on turning in in-class activities and actively engage in small group discussions.
Prerequisite(s): Sophomore standing or above for science majors (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, clinical lab science, and environmental science).
