MGT 4030 - CONTEMPORARY, LEGAL, AND ETHICAL ISIN SPORTS MANAGEMENT credits: 3.0 Crosslisted/Same As: SPM 4030 MGT 4030-SPM 4030 . Will explore a range of social, legal, and ethical challenges. Topics such as Title IX, competition vs gamesmanship, racial and gender equity, athlete abuse, performance enhancing drugs, and the effect of sport on the mental health of athletes can be discussed. Objectives: A) Compare the role of sports in national and global environments; B) Identify the contribution of sports at youth, secondary, collegiate, amateur, and professional levels; C) Identify key social, legal, and ethical issues involved in sports and their impact on society; D) Evaluate the effect of athletes as role models on society; E) Review and present the root causes of bias and racial and gender inequity in sports; F) Create a critical analysis necessary to research and articulate key issues. Method of Instruction: Lecture, classroom discussion, case analysis, and guest speakers. Method of Evaluation: Assignments / Quizzes 20%; Exams 30%; Written Case Studies 20%; Term Project 30% = 100%.
