MGT 3001 - EVENT AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

MGT 3001-SPM 3001 . Provides the theory and practical application of designing, planning, organizing, and managing sports and recreational events and facilities while meeting the needs of public and private stakeholders. Routine sporting activities and special events such as tournaments, music festivals, conventions, trade shows, concerts, and lecture series will be addressed. The evaluation of how close events or activities come to obtaining their goals will also be studied. Objectives: A) Explain the issues related to event planning; B) Evaluate the relationship of the design, operation, and maintenance of sport and recreation facilities; C) Explain the importance of private and public interests in event planning and facilities management; D) Assess the needs of amateur and professional sports participants and public users of recreational facilities; E) Describe and interpret the economic factors, budgetary considerations, and funding options in event and facilities management; F) Identify the needs of internal and external providers of services to sports events and recreational facilities; G) Assess legal issues and critically analyze risk factors inherent in events and recreational facilities; H) Prepare and present orally a research paper in a professional manner. Method of Instruction: Lecture, classroom discussion, case analyses, and written and oral presentations. Method of Evaluation: Assignments / Quizzes, 20%, Exams 30%, Written case studies 20%, and Term project 30%.
