MGT 2960 - TEAM BUILDING FOR MANAGERS credits: 6.0 Team Building for Mangers is an application course in which business students will learn the basic tools on how to develop effective teams. This is a highly hands on course environment where every topic will be teach through a combination of groups exercises, in classroom simulations, theory and practice. Students will learn how to create truly effective teams to increase the performance level of the organization. Through a combination of groups exercises, in classroom simulations, team building techniques and instructions, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of critical concepts and practices on how to become a team leader, how to create teams, improve performance, avoid behaviors and practices that compromise achieving the desire results. Students will also review how our understanding of teams differs in a global context. Objectives: A) Define what is team building and why is it important in the business environment; B) Define team’s identity, moral values, group cohesion, goal settings and norms that would support the team environment; C) Examine and apply the different stages of team development; D) Identify the main individual, organizational and cultural factors needed to build high performance teams; E) Demonstrate the importance of Leadership for team performance; F) Evaluate the different dysfunctions of teams that compromise achieving the desire results; G) Analyze best practices in team process design; H) Examine different techniques use in team’s decision making process and when to use individuals instead of teams; I) Develop an analytical and integrative way of thinking about team building to enable the student to critically evaluate organizational practices that enables or not a team building organizational culture; K)Explain how our understanding of teams differs in a global context. Method of Instruction: Group’s exercises, in classroom simulations, oral presentations, team building techniques, lectures, videos, and classroom discussion. Method of Evaluation: Teams Projects as 20% of the final grade; Teams Oral Presentations as 20% of the final grade; Team Building Exercises as 20% of the final grade; Quizzes as 20% of the final grade; In classroom analysis, discussion and active participation as 20% of the final grade.
