                  MAT 1001 - ESSENTIAL MATH SKILLS II credits: 1.0 Recommended for some freshmen, based on math skills. Students enrolled in essential math skills should go to Watson Hall, room 310, on the first day of classes for assignment to a regular section. To provide an opportunity for students to gain confidence and competence in basic mathematical skills. The course includes both pre-algebra and elementary algebra.  Method of Instruction: A modified tutorial program. Students meet in small groups with an instructor and tutor. Most of the work is self-paced, but help is available. There are three hours of class time scheduled each week, no work is normally required outside of class. Method of Evaluation: The course is offered on a pass-fail basis with passing grades assigned to students who attend class regularly and demonstrate progress. Specifically, a student must attend at least thirty hours (for one credit) and satisfactorily complete an amount of material agreed on by student and instructor at the beginning of the course.
