LRS 101B - GAME CHANGERS: DEVELOPINGEXCELLENCE AS A STUDENT-ATHLETE credits: 1.5 This course, designed specifically for first-year student-athletes, will prepare students to meet academic and athletic goals during their time at EC and beyond. Through self-exploration, skill-building, and community involvement, student-athletes will explore what it means to be a student-athlete and develop and implement skills to successfully perform and become leaders in and out of the classroom. Objectives: A) Demonstrate effective academic success strategies required throughout the collegiate experience, such as time management, note taking, test taking, studying, critical thinking, problem solving, academic discourse, academic reading, etc.; B) Identify and utilize campus resources to create and manage their successful path towards graduation; C) Establish goals for both academic and athletic success and create and carry out a plan to achieve those goals; D) Exemplify positive, collaborative behavior with peers and campus/community partners E) Discover what is needed to maintain a sense of personal balance and ways in which to seek personal renewal. Method of Instruction: Lectures, Discussions, Workshops, Videos/Podcasts, and Assigned Readings. Method of Evaluation: Will be graded on a Pass-Fail basis. Individual Meeting Attendance and Weekly Journals (25%); Daily Assignments and Papers (25%); Group Presentations (25%); Individual Portfolios and Presentations (25%).
