HMS 3006 - OBSERVING CHILD DEVELOPMENT credits: 3.0 A study of the development of preschool children in the areas of physical, social, emotional, language, cognitive, and creative development. Students learn to observe and document development in a preschool setting and develop a set of learning recommendations based on a case study of a single child. Objectives: To demonstrate an understanding of the physical characteristics, motor development, affective, social, cognitive and intellectual behavior of young children (three-to-five years old); to observe young children in the preschool classroom and record their behavior in a variety of formats; to show competence in observing and recording through systematic assessment of an individual child in a classroom. Method of Instruction: Instructor evaluation of written exercises and assignments, case study, and final presentation.
Prerequisite(s): HMS 1010 - SERVICES TO FAMLS WITH YOUNG CHLDRN and PSY 2060 - CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGY
