HMS 2020 - MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES credits: 3.0 Will provide students with an overview of various mental health programs. The history of the community mental health system, as well as present day treatment models, will be examined. The application of current therapeutic interventions will be covered including individual, group and family therapies as well as the role of psychotropic medication. Programs and treatments will be examined for a variety of sub-populations including the dually diagnosed, children and the elderly. Method of Instruction: Lectures, audio-visuals, and small group exercises. Method of Evaluation: Term projects, weekly writing assignments, final project, and class presentation.
