HIS 2670 - HISTORY OF CHINA SINCE 1600 credits: 3.0 A survey of Chinese history from 1600 to the present covering the major social and political developments that coalesced to produce the striking changes in China over the past two centuries. Objectives: A) Identify and describe the key people, movements and events in the history of Chinese civilization and culture from 1600 to the present; B) Identify and describe the impact of colonialism and the concepts behind it on Chinese civilization and culture; C) Describe the development of the social, cultural, and religious traditions that have defined the boundaries of Chinese cultural identity; D) Analyze and synthesize a variety of historical data; E) Communicate effectively, in writing and speaking, about historical developments in China. Method of Instruction: Lecture and discussion. Method of Evaluation: Participation: 10%, Response papers/study questions 20%, Quizzes: 10%, Mid-term Exam: 30%, Final Exam: 30%. Meets *NWP Distribution Requirement.
