FAR 2900 - THE MUSICAL

The course sections offered are broken down into specific topics: Technical and Performance.

The Technical section is for students who will work on aspects of technical production and design, which may include: scenery (construction, rigging, painting, set decoration-draperies and drops, and design), lighting, sound and projections (hanging, focusing, and preparation of lighting, sound, images/video, and design), properties (construction, procurement and preparation of furniture, and other physical parts that the performers handle for a production, and design), and costumes (procurement, construction, repair, and design).

The Performance section is for students who will perform on stage or as musicians in the band/orchestra, or who work as part of the stage management team. Enrolling in the Performance section is by audition only for performers, and by audition or interview for musicians and stage managers; interested students should contact the Director of the Theatre Program for more information prior to registration. Objectives: To understand and participate in the process of producing a musical. Method of Instruction: Intensive participation in multiple aspects of the production will be expected.

In the Spring term, enrolling for 3.0 or 6.0 credits depends on the full scope of the student’s work/hours in relationship to the course/production; NOTE: 6.0 credits require participation in the technical rehearsals and run of the show (as running crew, board operators, house/audience management, and other positions per the Director and/or Technical Director).  Course Fee: $50.00.
