ENV 3930 - ADVANCED ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD METHOD


credits: 6.0
A field methods course covering a variety of environmental careers. This course is intended to prepare students for environmental sampling careers in hydrology, water resources, oceanography, ecology, geology, or sedimentology. We will spend almost all of the course in the field with some data processing time in class. Students are expected to lead field teams and organize data collection and presentations. Objectives: A) Collect environmental samples according to standard environmental sampling methods; B) Run quality control and assessment on those samples; C) Process and manage the collected data into a usable format; D) Synthesize & Analyze collected data into sensible conclusions; E) Present conclusions in an intelligible manner. Method of Instruction: Classes will be taught out in the field in small groups, some laboratory work for data processing will be done in small groups. Method of Evaluation: Individual Project 600 pts; Group Leadership 150 pts; Laboratory 250 pts.
