ENV 1910 - WATER SCARCITY AND POLLUTION

Will examine the finite supply of water on earth and the natural and anthropogenic influences on the water cycle. The global distribution of water leads to droughts, floods, conflicts, and engineering in the face of climate change. The global impacts of water scarcity, discusses solutions to the water crisis, and highlights one example of water pollution and the human and ecological impacts will also be reviewed. Objectives: A) Explain the parts of the water cycle; B) Predict and discuss outcomes of water scarcity; C) Compare and contrast the motivations of individuals and corporations for water conservation and remediation; D) Defend a stakeholder’s position in water allocation scenarios; and E) Identify the impact of pollutants on human health. Method of Instruction: Lectures, discussions, and in-class activities. Method of Evaluation: 20% Quizzes, 20% Discussions, 20% Case Studies and Activities, 20% Final Presentation, and 20% Participation. *Participation on campus: attendance, contributing to large-group discussions. Participation when online: Attending synchronous classes, comprehension quizzes.
